Eclypse - secondary dressing highly absorbent dressing

Summary

Eclypse is designed as an exudate management product. The dressing combines advanced dressing technology -- a rapid wicking polyester and viscose spun woven face -- to provide a moist environment with Xu-LockTM crystals to manage heavy exudate loads by locking exudate away from the skin.

The blue backing is polyester fluid repellant film designed to prevent strike-through.

Eclypse is a secondary dressing and should be used with an appropriate wound contact layer if there is open ulceration. (e.g. Silflex or Actilite)

[features]

  • Highly absorbent
  • High capacity
  • Reduce protential fluid leaks
  • Reduce risk of maceration
  • Promotes and maintains a moist environment crucial to wound healing
  • Blue backing prevents strike-through onto cloths and bandages, as well as reducing friction

[fewer changes]

12 patients, with high levels of exudate, were referred to the wound care service at Doncaster Royal Infirmary. They were selected for the evaluation. The Eclypse dressing pad was evaluated on its exudate management properties, conditions of the surrounding skin, wound management/deterioration, patients’ quality of life, frequency of dressing change, nursing time utilised, patient perception and comparison to previous dressing used. Wound assessment evaluation forms and photography were used throughout.

Of the twelve cases presented, the results are the following:

How to Use

[how to use]

Eclypse is placed face down on the wound surface, with blue backing uppermost. For larger wounds place several dressings side by side. Protect friable skin, or drier areas of the wound with a non-adherent dressing under Eclypse. Secure the dressing pad with tape or bandage appropriately. Eclypse may be used under compression bandages.

[frequency of change]

Wear time will depend on the level of exudate, daily changes may be required, but Eclypse can be left in place for up to a week. Because of the excellent fluid handling capability of the dressing, it may become heavy and cause sagging when saturated. Once the crystals are swollen and full of exudate they may cause pressure on the wound bed making it necessary to change Eclypse.
